9 Foot Surfboard - Progress

I started my 9 foot longboard surfboard today. I did the main spar which consists of 3 - 9 foot lengths of 1/8" Luan plywood glued together. The plywood comes in 8 x 4 sheets, so I had to cut and glue an extra foot piece interspersed between the 8 foot sections. Once the glue dries, and can shape. Then I can start cutting the frame pieces.

Is this from a kit? I have a wooden ship kit, and I wonder if surfboards are constucted in a way similar to the hulls of ships?

I got instructions off of ebay. I had to buy all the materials myself, and cut to pattern.
